Mechanism of action
It acts directly on arteriolar smooth muscle to cause relaxation. It decreases diastolic pressure by lowering peripheral vascular resistance. Due to preferential arteriolar dilatation, postural hypotension is uncommon. It increases heart rate and cardiac output.
