Gemcitabine

Anti neoplastic

Mechanism of action

It exhibits cell phase specificity, killing primarily cells undergoing DNA synthesis as well as blocking the progression of cells through the G1/S-phase boundary. Gemcitabine is metabolized intracellularly by nucleoside kinases to active diphosphate and triphosphate nucleosides and the combined action of these nucleosides leads to inhibition of DNA synthesis.
