Mechanism of action

Oestrogen responsive tissues show putative receptor proteins for oestrogens. Oestrogens are first bound to a cytoplasmic receptor protein and following modification this complex is translocated to the nucleus where the ultimate binding occurs and as a result of such binding metabolic alteration occurs. In metastatic carcinoma of prostate oestrogens counter the androgenic influence by competing for receptor sites.
