Mechanism of action
| It is an agonist for dopamine receptors in CNS, renal and other vascular beds (vasodilator). It is an immediate metabolic precursor of norepinephrine. Dopamine is an agonist at 1 adrenoceptors in heart. At high doses it stimulates alpha adrenoceptors leading to vasoconstriction. I.V. infusion of dopamine in low doses is associated with increased renal blood flow, increased GFR and sodium excretion. |
