Mechanism of action
| It is a selective aldosterone receptor antagonist. It binds to the mineralocorticoid receptor and blocks binding of aldosterone. Aldosterone synthesis occurs in adrenal gland and is modulated by angiotensin II, ACTH & potassium. Aldosterone binds to mineralocorticoid receptor and increases blood pressure. Eplerenone has relative selectivity in binding to human mineralocorticoid receptors compared to its binding to glucocorticoid and androgen receptors. |
